How to Prepare for ECAT 2026

1. Know the pattern cold

The UET ECAT is 100 MCQs — Mathematics 30, Physics 30, Chemistry (or Computer Science) 30 and English 10 — worth 4 marks each for 400 total, with no negative marking. Read the full ECAT syllabus first so you know exactly what is tested. Because there is no negative marking, never leave a question blank.

2. Prioritise Maths and Physics

Maths and Physics carry 60 of the 100 questions and reward fast, accurate calculation. Most of your practice time should go here. Build a mental library of shortcuts so you can solve a numerical in well under a minute — that speed is what separates high scorers.

3. Train for speed with timed practice

One minute per MCQ leaves no room for slow thinking. Practise under a timer from the start, and work the full 2010–2025 past-paper archive — UET repeats question types, so pattern familiarity directly buys you speed.

4. Don’t neglect English

English is only 10 questions, but they are quick, high-certainty marks that many aspirants skip preparing for. A few hours of vocabulary and grammar practice can secure most of them.

5. Simulate the real thing

Sit full 100-MCQ mocks under a 100-minute timer so exam-day pressure feels normal. Review every mistake, log it, and re-drill it. Since merit combines your FSc result with ECAT, protect your board marks too — but ECAT is where you gain or lose the most ground on test day.

Common mistakes to avoid

• Practising untimed — ECAT punishes slow solvers more than weak ones.
• Skipping English and Computer Science (for DAE candidates) — easy marks left on the table.
• Only doing recent past papers — go back further to see repeated patterns.
• Leaving questions blank — with no negative marking, always guess.
