Who we are

Calibre is an exam preparation app built in Pakistan for Pakistani students. We help you prepare for board (Class 9–12), MDCAT, and ECAT exams.

What we collect

When you create an account

  • • Your email address (for signing in)
  • • Your full name (for personalising your dashboard)
  • • Your selected class / stream / exam (so we know what content to show)
  • • Your password — stored only in encrypted form, never readable by us or anyone else

As you use Calibre

  • • MCQ attempts (which question, your answer, correct/wrong, time taken)
  • • Bookmarks, notes you write, your study streak
  • • Mock test scores
  • • Approximate progress per chapter / unit

Technical data collected automatically

  • • Device model, OS version, app version (for crash debugging)
  • • A device fingerprint (to enforce one-device-at-a-time security)
  • • Crash reports (only if the app crashes — never personal study data)

What we DO NOT collect

  • • Your location
  • • Your contacts or phone book
  • • Your photos, videos, or camera (except when YOU voluntarily attach a screenshot via Report Error)
  • • Your phone calls, SMS, or messages
  • • Other apps installed on your device
  • • Your microphone

Why we collect this data

Strictly for these purposes:

  • • To sign you in and save your progress across sessions
  • • To recommend chapters and mocks based on YOUR weak areas
  • • To send the verification email when you sign up
  • • To detect and prevent account sharing (per Pakistani edtech industry standard)
  • • To respond when you submit a Report Error or Review
  • • To debug crashes and improve the app

Who we share it with

Calibre does not sell your data to advertisers, marketers, or anyone else. We share data only with:

  • • Supabase (our backend infrastructure provider, USA-based, GDPR-compliant) — to store your account
  • • Google Play (download + updates) — for app distribution only

We do not send data to any other third party. There are no advertising trackers, no analytics platforms outside Supabase, no marketing pixels.

Children's privacy

Calibre is for students aged 13 and above. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

If you are under 13, please ask a parent or guardian to use Calibre with you.

If we learn we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it within 7 days. Parents can email support@calibre.pk to request review and deletion of a child's data.

How long we keep data

  • • Active accounts: as long as you keep using Calibre
  • • Inactive accounts (no sign-in for 12 months): we email you a reminder. After 18 months of inactivity, the account and all data are automatically deleted.
  • • Deleted accounts: all personal data is wiped from our servers within 7 days of your deletion request.
  • • Anonymous, aggregated stats (e.g., “150 students attempted Bio Chapter 3 this week”) — kept indefinitely. These contain NO personal identifiers.

Your rights

Per Pakistan's draft Personal Data Protection Bill 2023 and international best practice, you have the right to:

  • • Access your data — email support@calibre.pk and we'll send a full export within 7 days
  • • Correct your data — edit your profile in-app, or email support@calibre.pk
  • • Delete your account — go to Settings → Delete Account inside the Calibre app. Or email support@calibre.pk. We delete all personal data within 7 days.
  • • Stop email notifications — turn off in Settings → Notifications, or unsubscribe from any email we send

We respond to all requests within 7 working days.

How we protect your data

  • • All data is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.3
  • • Passwords are hashed using bcrypt — even Calibre staff cannot read your password
  • • Our database has Row-Level Security so users can only see their own data
  • • Admin access requires two-factor authentication and is fully audit-logged
  • • Suspicious login attempts trigger automatic account locking

If our policy changes

We will email all registered users at least 7 days before any change takes effect. You will also see an in-app notice at next sign-in. Continued use of Calibre after a change indicates you accept the new policy. You can always delete your account if you do not agree.
